Review: ร้านขนมปังฝรั่งเศส Pain Perdu (แปง เปอร์ดู)
I have only one word for snacks/desserts: Love.
รัก คือคำเดียวที่มุ้ยมีให้กับขนมและของหวาน
And when I was in Bangkok last month, a friend of mine brought me to this place with a promise that there'd be "kanom" (snacks/desserts in Thai). Imagine my delight. ;)
แล้วตอนมุ้ยกลับกรุงเทพฯ เดือนที่แล้ว พี่เมย์ (พีสาวคนสวย เจ้าของร้าน Suay360) เค้าบอกว่าจะพามุ้ยไปกินขนมมม อิอิอิ ไม่ต้องบอกก็รู้เนอะ ว่ามุ้ยแฮปปี้แค่ไหน ;)
Pain Perdu (แปงเปอร์ดู)
Pain Perdu is an open shop located on the 7th floor of one of Bangkok's major shopping mall, Central World. It's also got an open kitchen where you can watch the chef make your orders. What I loved is that the shop is right by the balcony and under a canopy, letting in a lot of sunlight in the day. Overall, the atmosphere feels very open and spacious; I could spend all my afternoon here.
ร้าน แปงเปอร์ดู เป็นร้านแบบเปิดโล่ง อยู่ที่ ชั้น 7 ห้างเซ็นทรัลเวิลด์ แล้วเค้าก็มีครัวแบบเปิด สามารถดูขั้นตอนที่เชฟทำเมนูที่เราสั่งได้ด้วย สิ่งที่มุ้ยชอบมากของร้านนี้คือมันอยู่ติดขอบระเบียง แล้วก็อยู่ใต้ผ้าดาดเพดาน ทำสว่างด้วยแสงแดดธรรมชาติ บรรยากาศโดยรวมโปร่งๆ โล่งๆ สบาย บอกเลยว่ามุ้ยนั่งได้ทั้งวัน
By the way, the owner/founder of Pain Perdu is Mr. Fang (more known as Chef Fang), who used to host one of Thailand's Cooking TV show called Krua Indy (or Independent Kitchen), which I totally have no idea about because I live on another planet--just kidding.

Pain Perdu on the Stick comes with 3 sticks of diced french toast drizzled in 3 classic dessert flavours: strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate. The toast cubes are just the perfect bite-size. The drizzles provide just the right amount of flavour and is not too sweet. The texture of the bread is surprisingly very fluffy.

แปงเปอร์ดู ออน เดอะ สติ๊ก เป็นเมนูขนมปังฟรั่งเศสหั่นเป็นชิ้นๆ เสียบไม้ มาทั้งหมด 3 ไม้ ราดด้วยซอส 3 รส สตรอว์เบอร์รี่ วนิลา แล้วก็ ช็อกโกแลต ชิ้นขนมปังแต่ละชั้นเป็นสีเหลียมพอดีคำ ซอสที่ราดก็ให้รสชาติได้พอดี ไม่หวานไป แล้วเนื้อขนมปังคือ นุ่มมาก

Mini Bon Choux | มินิ บอง ชูว์ {♥♥♥♥♥}
It's called a 'choux creme', it looks a 'choux creme', but it's so much more than just a 'choux creme'.
มันเรียกว่า 'ชูว์ครีม' หน้าตาเหมือน 'ชูว์ครีม' แต่มันมากกว่า 'ชูว์ครีม'
Despite the name 'mini', Mini Bon Choux is actually larger than the regular choux cremes I've seen sold elsewhere. The crust is nice and quite crunchy. What I loved about this dish is it's filled with cream and ice cream.
ถึงแม้ว่ามันจะมีชื่อว่า มินิ (แปลว่าจิ๋ว ในภาษาอังกฤษ) แต่ มินิ บอง ชูว์ นี้ยังชิ้นใหญ่กว่าชูว์ครีมอื่นๆ ที่มุ้ยเห็นขายอยู่นะ ตัวขนมปังก็นุ่มๆ กรอบๆ อร่อย แล้วที่มุ้ยชอบมากคือมันสอดใส้ครีม กับ ไอศครีม
Mini Bon Choux is packed with one mound of chocolate-and-milk-flavoured soft cream and another mound of fresh cream. Strawberries and oranges are added to the mixture to keep everything from being too sweet. Some nut slices here, banana slices there, a drizzle of strawberry sauce, then stick in some fresh mint leaves, and voilà, the dessert that's as delectable as it's photogenic.
มินิ บอง ชูว์ อัดแน่นไปด้วยซอฟท์ครีมรส นม กับ ช็อกโกแลต ก้อนนึง แล้วก็ครีมสดอีกก้อนนึง แล้วก็มีสตรอว์เบอร์รี่กับส้มชิ้นๆ ใส่เข้าไปด้วย เพิ่มรสเปรี้ยวเข้าไป ตัดไม่ให้หวานเกิน โรยด้วยถั่วสไลด์ ใส่กล้วยอีกนิด ราดซอสสตรอว์เบอร์รี่อีกหน่อย ปักใบมิ้นท์สดสักสองสามใบ ก็ได้ล้ะ ของหวานที่ทั้งสวยและอร่อย
Fudge Brownie & Soft Cream | ฟัดจ์บราวนี้ & ซอฟท์ครีม {♥♥♥♥}
As a lover of brownies (and all things chocolate, actually), I have to say this brownie does not disappoint at all. It's fudgy and got that rich chocolate taste. Served with milk soft cream and waffle cone, I feel like the birthday girl with her special treat.
ด้วยมุมมองของคนรักบราวนี้ (จริงๆ ก็คือทุกอย่างที่เป็นช็อกโกแลตอ่ะแหละ) ต้องบอกเลยว่าเมนูนี้ไม่ทำให้ผิดหวัง เนื้อแน่นเป็นบราวนี้ ได้รสช็อกโกแลตที่ดี ไม่ใช่แบบก๊อกแก๊ก เสิร์ฟพร้อมซอฟท์ครีมรสนมในโคนวอฟเฟิล คือ ฟินมว๊าก
Sweetness will build up after a couple of bites of this Fudge Brownie & Soft Cream, so I'd recommend siding this menu with a cup of hot coffee. This combination and a good book would make my afternoon perfect.
แต่อันนี้มันหวาน พอกิน ฟัดจ์บราวนี้ & ซอฟท์ครีม ไปเรื่อยๆ จะมีเลี่ยน ถ้าใครไปลอง มุ้ยขอแนะนำให้สั่งกาแฟร้อนมากินควบคู่กัน เซ็ทนี้กับหนังสือดีๆ สักเล่ม นี่แหละสโลว์ไลฟ์ของฉัน

Grilled Cheese Sandwich + Smoked Salmon + Egg + Hollandaise Sauce | กริลล์ชีสแซนด์วิช + แซลมอนรมควัน + ไข่ดาว + ซอสฮอลแลนด์เดส {♥♥♥}
The first impression this Grilled Cheese Sandwich (with the addition of Smoked Salmon, Fried Egg, and Hollandaise Sauce) left me with wasn't as remarkable as the desserts. I personally prefer layered sandwiches, like BLTs or Clubs, so this one here turned out to be too thin and soaked for my liking. Although I do need to say the Hollandaise sauce is worth commending. I'm not really good at describing taste and smell, but let's just say it's the perfect blend of sweet, savoury, and sour.

Iced Green Tea Latte | ชาเขียวลาเต้เย็น {♥♥♥♥}
Green tea latte is one of my go-to drink to order at any café (given that it's on their menu), and luckily for me, Pain Perdu's beverage menu includes this (yay!). The first thing I noticed after taking a sip was that I tasted tea, as in that rich taste of tea. Kudos for that. But, somehow, it still wasn't enough to make me go "OMG, this is good!"
ชาเขียวลาเต้ (หรือชาเขียวผสมนม) เป็นเมนูเครื่องดื่มที่มุ้ยมักจะเลือกสั่งถ้าเป็นร้านกาแฟอะไรก็ตาม (ถ้ามันมีในเมนูของร้านอ่ะนะ) แล้วที่ แปงเปอร์ดู เค้ามี เย้ๆ รสแรกที่ได้หลังจากจิบคือได้รสเข้มๆ ขมๆ นิดๆ ของชา ซึ่งดีอ่ะ แต่มันยังไม่ถึงขั้น "เห้ย อร่อยมาก!"
It's definitely better than more than half of the other green tea lattes I've tried, because of that rich tea flavor, but I feel like it's not rich and milky enough.. but I'm guessing it's because it's iced. I so gotta try the hot version next time.
คือบอกได้ว่าอร่อยกว่าชาเขียวลาเต้กว่าครึ่งที่มุ้ยเคยกินมานะ เพราะมันมีรสชา ที่แบบ มันชาจริงๆ หลายร้านที่มุ้ยกินมันมีรสชาน้อยมว๊าก แต่อันนี้มันยังไม่ค่อยเข้มข้นเท่าที่ชอบ แต่มุ้ยว่าน่าจะเพราะมันเป็นแบบเย็น ไม่ได้ๆ รอบหน้าต้องลองแบบร้อน

- The bright open shop ร้านสว่างๆ โล่งๆ - I love bright sunlit places, so, yea. มุ้ยเป็นคนที่ชอบที่ๆ สว่างๆ ด้วยแสงธรรมชาติอ่านะ
- Free Wifi and Electric Outlet วายฟายฟรี กับ ปลั๊กไฟ - Perfect place to use my laptop. ที่ทำงานที่เพอร์เฟ็ค
In short, this place fits in what I'd call "my ideal coffee shop." Why were you not here when I was still studying in Thailand?? Anyhow, I hope you enjoy this little food/desserts/coffee shop review. I'm hoping to blog more about these in the future. So stay tuned!
